Katsuryokutan® activated carbon is an even more refined form of the activated carbon that has been the focus of so much recent attention. Besides being an effective water and air purifier with typical deodorizing and adsorbent features associated with activated carbon, UES’ Katsuryokutan® has been shown to very efficiently generate negative ions, absorb infrared radiation and electromagnetic waves, and prevent mites. Still more benefits from Katsuryokutan® await discovery. With absolutely no harmful effect on the ecosystem, we are convinced that effective and environmentally rational Katsuryokutan® is the ideal material for a world deeply concerned about environmental preservation.

Carbonized coconut shells are oxidized in an 800oC ? 1200oC steam environment, making the carbon structure more porous. This thermal process by which a more intricate pore structure and greater adsorption area is formed is called “activation“.

Katsuryokutan®'s performance is superior to other charcoal-based products. This superior performance is due to the difference in adsorption area: typical wood and bamboo charcoals cover 200 ? 400 m2/g while Katsuryokutan® covers an impressive 800 ? 1300 m2/g. The Katsuryokutan® manufacturing process employs precise industrial quality management, making it possible to consistently provide product of superior performance and quality. The complex surface structure of Katsuryokutan® is another important factor that separates it from other charcoal products. In sum, Katsuryokutan® is a perfect example of product development combining compactness and superior performance.
